Remarkable fine art careers don’t always start with art school.

For Cindy Lass, it began one ordinary day in 1994, when her mother asked her to create a painting of a blue and white vase for her sitting room. She never imagined it would mark the beginning of a career spanning three decades and earning international recognition.

Colour has always been at the heart of her work. Drawn to flowers, gardens and the changing seasons, Lass developed a distinctive style that celebrates everyday subjects with vitality and an unmistakable sense of joy. Her paintings are immediately recognisable for their vibrant colour palettes and expressive energy. With an intuitive approach to painting, she seeks to capture not only a subject’s appearance, but also its character, spirit and emotional presence. Whether painting flowers, still lifes or beloved animals, her work is underpinned by an enduring fascination with beauty found in everyday life. The late Professor Stan Smith, a close friend and supporter of her work, nominated her for membership of the Chelsea Arts Club and encouraged her to preserve her own artistic voice rather than be influenced by formal art training.

Within a few years of her initial foray into the art world, Lass was exhibiting in prestigious London galleries and attracting widespread media attention. Her remarkable rise was documented by numerous publications including the Evening Standard and The Daily Telegraph. Collectors and critics alike were drawn to the optimism and distinctive use of colour that would become hallmarks of her practice.

Lass became increasingly sought after for private commissions, particularly her unique animal portraits. Celebrated for their warmth, personality and charm, these works captured the affection that owners felt for their pets while remaining unmistakably Cindy Lass in style. Her growing reputation led to a number of prestigious commissions, including a commission from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to paint her much-loved corgis. A print of The Queen’s Corgis  was subsequently acquired for The Kennel Club’s collection, where it hangs among paintings of royal corgis spanning centuries of British history. Over the years, she has also created works for collectors and notable public figures in the UK and internationally, establishing a reputation as one of Britain’s most sought-after animal portrait artists.

Alongside her private commissions, Lass has remained committed to supporting charitable causes throughout her career, contributing to numerous fundraising initiatives and helping to raise significant sums for children’s charities and animal welfare organisations.

Lass's work has been exhibited internationally and is held in private collections throughout the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States. Today, she continues to paint from her studios in London and Palma, Mallorca, creating works that celebrate colour, nature and the beauty found in everyday life. Rich in vitality and optimism, her paintings reflect a lifelong belief in the power of art to bring joy and connection — qualities that have remained at the heart of her work for more than thirty years.
